How to Maximize Dopamine & Motivation youtube.com/watch?v=ha1ZbJIW1f8
DOPAMINE IS A MOTIVATOR, NOT A REWARD.
But I suspect that feeling motivated would feel rewarding.
GAUGING PROGRESS.
PURSUIT OF GOAL IS REWARD.
ADDICTION IS GETTING PLEASURE WITHOUT HEALTHY PURSUIT.
JAMES SLOANE SAID, FOR LOW DOPAMINE (WHICH YIELDS LOW MOTIVATION) OR TO HELP PREVENT WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS WHEN QUITTING DRUGS OR MEDS:

_{These nutrients} Phenylalanine and tyrosine are precursors for the production of dopamine. I recommend 1 {gram or 1,000 mg} of the phenylalanine or tyrosine {with each meal} 3 times daily at least 30 minutes before meals. _ It takes about 2 weeks for these amino acids to build up to therapeutic levels.
_I would avoid liquids {with the phenylalanine or tyrosine}. Once water is added to an herb or even vitamins _ oxidation {damages their nutritional value}.
_Magnolia bark is also a dopamine stimulant.
_You {could for Stress} also tr{y} nettle leaf {powder} to reduce lactate and to build up the adrenals. Nettle leaf can help reduce anxiety through both means.
See comments at https://acts15church.substack.com/p/motivation-to-succeed/comment/14946809 regarding benefits and risks of supplementing with tyrosine or phenylalanine. It looks like one should not take any more than 3 grams = 3,000 mg per day of phenylalanine.
ADDICTION REDUCES PLEASURE. GOOD LIVING EXPANDS PLEASURE.
WE LEARN TO SELF-REGULATE.
HEALTHY BRIEF DISCOMFORT IS FOLLOWED BY HOURS OF PLEASURE.
Yes, a cold water dip or brief cold shower seems to be healthy.
MENTALLY PREPARE FOR DISCOMFORT & SUCCESS.
This video (youtube.com/watch?v=tWzakqerPUw) says we can learn to enjoy the effort it takes to accomplish something by remembering when we’re having discomfort that the discomfort is going to lead to much pleasure. My Dad was a “slave-driver”. He made me and my brother do a lot of hard work from about age 7 to age 18. It was too much work, but I learned to do chores quickly, instead of procrastinating, so the discomfort would be over sooner. Now I decide for myself what work I want to do. And I want to enjoy the work as well as the finished product. I’ve learned that thinking through what I want to do in advance, each step I need to take, helps me feel more confident to keep going till a task is done. But now I also plan to use the “growth mindset” to anticipate discomfort in my next projects and to notice the discomfort and then remind myself that it will be followed by significant pleasure, if I endure the discomfort. I want to see if the discomfort will then be more pleasurable. There is healthy discomfort and unhealthy discomfort. We’re surely not meant to enjoy abuse, so, let’s avoid that, but let’s enjoy the healthy discomfort of life. Right? I hope I’ll remember to report on my results in a week or so.
As a sales centric energy guy who tries supplements I'm interested in the part you wrote about phenylalanine or tyrosine. Anybody with 1st hand knowledge please chime in. As far as the video, pain ≡ gain avoids the double negative colloquial phrase.
