Please pray that Gabriella gets reunification with Izzy asap.

Gabriella (GA) had her then 11 year-old daughter Izzy taken by Illinois DCFS in Oct. 2023 on supposed suspicion of overmedicating Izzy. Izzy had a traumatic birth in the hospital in Dec. 2011 due in part to staff negligence apparently. And GA talked to a lawyer in 2023 who said she was still eligible for compensation from the hospital for that. GA has several health problems of her own as well. GA told Izzy’s care providers earlier in 2023 that she was planning to sue the hospital for compensation for Izzy. Then on Oct. 3, 2023 a DCFS caseworker accompanied by a sheriff’s deputy came and interviewed GA and Izzy and the next day took Izzy away.

Last year we found out that DCFS sent CANTS forms to 8 or more of Izzy’s care providers to ask if Izzy was medically neglected. DCFS asked that the forms be returned by Oct. 2, but only one provider returned it by then and this provider indicated suspicion of overmedicating Izzy. So that was apparently enough to persuade DCFS to interview GA and Izzy the next day and take Izzy away 2 days later. GA has understandably been concerned about Izzy’s health ever since her traumatic birth, so she has always tried to alert care providers to Izzy’s symptoms. However, her health conditions give her difficulty with communication and some providers mistake these difficulties for insubordination.

DCFS allowed GA to have supervised visits with Izzy for a few weeks after she was taken, but there was a verbal conflict between GA and the foster parents, which DCFS used as an excuse to disallow any further visitation. So GA has not seen her daughter since Nov. 2023. The court and her own lawyers seem to be biased to believing everything DCFS says and ignoring what GA says, or misconstruing what she says. She has a lawyer now who may understand her communication problems better, so hopefully this lawyer will help get justice for her and Izzy.

The next hearing is for May 7. She’s asking the court to correct her diagnosis. DCFS claims that she has Munchausen by proxy, or Factitious Disorder, which is overmedicating ones child. But she was actually diagnosed with Autism and PTSD. Medical gaslighting is what providers often do to blame clients for problems instead of taking responsibility themselves. The client can’t overmedicate when the client can’t get meds without the providers’ prescriptions. It’s very ironic that providers can blame clients for overmedicating when the providers are responsible for prescribing. And it’s doubly ironic that courts are biased toward providers over clients.
